A place to gather in Helena, Montana.

Orofino is a gathering place in Helena, Montana where the natural rhythm of nature invites you to slow down, be present, and connect more deeply with yourself, your work, and the humans you love.

Nestled in Helena National Forest at the end of a country gravel road, cries out to be explored and interacted with. After a few days of following your curiosity, listening to the wind sift through the pine boughs, and gazing up at the night sky, you’ll emerge feeling refreshed and renewed.

Anyone who walks in these woods can experience a certain mindfullness at any given location on the land. Passing from one area of the site to another triggers a different mindset. We’ve attempted to recognize and embrace the idea of shifting mindsets as a tool to get people to be present. That feeling when you are suddenly aware of this moment as a moment in time where it is both the moment and the passing of the moment that is beautiful. (+significance of others)

Philosophy

Dream

Mindful of goals, dreams, intentions, eyes on the horizon.

Center

Mindful of calm, simplicity, innocence, child-like wonder.

It’s simple things like looking at the clouds, breathing, imag- ination, found objects in the landscape, it’s being present by doing “nothing.” openmindedness- interaction with others

Activities: Yoga, Yard Games, Forest Bathing

Root

Mindful of roots, groundings, and tradition.

It’s the deep knowing that there is an enduring foundation you can count on. Tree roots support tree canopies, family traditions guide families for generations, social roots tell you who you are

Earth

Mindful of earth as source of energy and life.

It’s attempting to answer the question, “how can we enjoy earth’s abundant resources and ensure continued harmony?” Fixing past damage (mining), continue drainage path- ways, is just the start.

Solitude

Mindful of stepping away, being alone, small things.

It’s being reminded of how small you are compared to the world- and enjoying small things in turn.

Sky

Mindful of the cosmos.

It’s about looking up. Because sometimes looking beyond allows us to see within.

Ritual

Mindful of camaraderie and mundane.

It’s comaraderie manifested through all five senses. The mutual trust and friendship among people who spend a lot of time together is celebrated though traversing every day activities in a sensory-choreographed environment. We become aware everyday activites- bathing, cooking, sleeping- are rituals that have meaning not from regularity or habit, but from those we chose to go through life with.
